The Massachusetts General Hospital has a long and rich tradition of excellence in clinical and basic research that continues to flourish. Extensive material and programatic resources are in place to assist in the training of clinical investigators, graduate students and postgraduate fellows in performing top quality translational and basic research. These include:
An integrated full service primary, secondary, and tertiary care hospital network with access to large numbers of both local patients with common diseases and national and international patients referred for evaluation of rare disorders.
A diverse population of thousands of basic and clinical scientists studying topics ranging from very basic molecular and structural biology to direct patient management.
Several educational programs tailord to enhance translational (bench to bedside) research, train clinical investigators, increase clinical trial activity, support outcomes and disease management initiatives, and provide regular formal updates in molecular biology and new investigational techniques and technologies.
Over 600,000 square feet of research space housing state-of-the-art equipment, Research Centers and Research Cores.
The Nephrology Division houses twenty-one independent clinical and basic research laboratories located in ~25,000 sq.ft of research space. Additional space is dedicated to specialized patient care. The Cell Biology Core and the MGH Structural Biology Core are housed in the Unit.
