Thadhani, M.D., MPH My research focus is on hypertensive disorders of pregnancy. Specifically, I study two cohorts of patients to elucidate potentially modifiable risk factors for preeclampsia and gestational hypertension. At the Nurses Health Study, my efforts are aimed towards understanding risk factors that can be uncovered using a large epidemiological data base. This work is supported by the NIH. At the MGH, we initiated a prospective cohort study in 1998 that has enrolled over one thousand women to date. In this population, we plan to study blood related risk factors for hypertensive disorders of pregnancy. Specifically, we are interested in early identification of hematological factors that result in increased glomerular permeability and wide spread endothelial injury. Collaborators in this study include the OB Unit, Clinical Laboratories, and the Reproductive Endocrine Unit. This work is currently supported by private grants.
